A Bit More About Me
Kaitlyn Zavesky recently completed her first season of night patrol with the Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC) as a Seasonal Sea Turtle Night Patrol Research Technician. Patrolling nesting beaches throughout the night encountering and collecting data on nesting loggerhead sea turtles. She has also participated in multiple sea turtle nesting seasons in Georgia and Florida.
She has previous experience working with rehabilitated cold-stunned green, loggerhead and Kemp’s ridley sea turtles from the New England region.
One of her most rewarding accomplishments thus far in her career is rehabilitating three loggerhead sea turtles from beginning to end. Kaitlyn first encountered the loggerheads while interning at the New England Aquarium’s Animal Care Center. Once they were stable enough to be transported, she personally transported them to the airport to further their rehabilitation at The Florida Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center (STRC). A couple months later, she joined the STRC as an intern, helping to continue their rehabilitation. Once the three loggerheads were cleared for release, Kaitlyn was lucky enough to participate in their release on the East Coast of Florida!
Watch the video and see through her eyes how rewarding her career has been!
